VW people: Is it pronounced “Emm Kay (insert digit)“ or “Mark (digit here)“ when referring to the generation of vehicle, as in Mk.3 Golf? Video that raised the question:
I’ve always said “MARK 3" in my head when reading ‘Mk.3'. And the Europeans (Top Gear) pronounce it that way too.
Who is right?

Mark is the pronunciation. However, internally, I use “em kay” to ensure I type it correctly.

I’ve always said Mark, since that’s what Mk stands for. That’s also why I’m extra annoyed by Lincoln’s naming.

Emm Kay for Lincoln.
All others are “Mark”.

It’s Mark Three, not Mortal Kombat Three

I feel it should be Mark. As to VW’s intent, who knows. Lincoln’s current mess of stupid product names was clearly originally intended to pronounced Mark

It’s Mark.
Emm kay is how the Mk4 forum says it. Don’t be like the Mk4 forum.

Especially because Lincoln’s used to mean Mark through the Mk VIII, until their #marketing team got to name cars and ruined everything.

Not a VW person, but I’ll weigh-in anyways. Mark.

I would assume that anyone who says the answer is something other than “Mark” either: (a) is not a native English speaker or (b) has literally never spoken to another human in person; and in either case must have learned to read English on internet forums.

It’s “mark.”
If we were supposed to say “Em kay” they would have made it two capital letters to be read like (jaguar) XK, (Nissan) ZX, and (ford truck) XLT

Mark. It just rolls off the tongue easier.

It’s officially Mark. Haven’t you seen the Unpimp Ze Auto ads? They always say “The GTI Mark Five, Pretuned by German Engineers” at the end.

I actually meant (Datsun) ZX but I didn’t want to confuse the children.
